Women Employment Through Sustainable Access to Finance and Skills (WESAF)

FWEAN and SAHAKARYA Nepal have been jointly implementing “Women Employment through Sustainable Access to Finance and Business Skills (WESAF)” project in Sindhuli district of Nepal in partnership of Finn Church Aid and Women’s Bank since 2018. The project covers the geographical areas of different three local government bodies of Sindhuli district (Dudhauli Municipality, Tinpatan Rural Municipality and Kamalamai Municipality) and aims to enhance socio economic empowerment of women members through women led enterprises development and better market linkage.

Project has supported the targeted beneficiaries to be organized into different women entrepreneur groups (WEGs). The total number of formed WEGs has reached more than 75 and the number of members in these groups has reached about 2700. The process of forming WEGs and organizing the 2500 targeted beneficiaries is ongoing. As per the major component of the project, one cooperative institution has been established and registered in each of project implementing local government bodies (in 8 VDC areas before restructuring). The cooperative institutions are regularly collecting savings from their members and are mobilizing credits among the members for entrepreneurship development.

Among the 2700 members of the cooperative institutions about 475 members have been participated in Start and Improve Your own Business (SIYB) training and different types of off farm and on farm vocational trainings like seasonal/off seasonal vegetables farming, goat rearing, pig farming, leaf plates making, fiber based products making, Dhaka weaving etc.
