A2015 Urban Resilience Project

June 30, 2024 - "Alliance 2015"

FWEAN, through the Urban Resilience Project (phases I and II), with financial support from Alliance 2015 (People in Need, Helvetas Nepal, and WHH Nepal), is focused on supporting targeted informal settlers, particularly women aged 19-55. These women are engaged as daily wage workers, domestic helpers, agricultural workers, and migrant manual laborers residing in communities of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC)-16, Kathmandu, and Godawari Municipality-3, Lalitpur in Bagmati Province. During the short-term Urban Resilience Project (phase I), FWEAN carried out activities related to skill development, access to finance, and safety.

Based on past learnings and assessments, it was found that the informal settlers residing in these communities have insufficient support mechanisms and limited access to various services provided by local government and other authorities. Furthermore, documentation hassles have been preventing them from accessing land ownership, which has been a major issue for community members. In continuation of the pilot project, the current phase II is focused on scaling up community resilience by promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing access to finance, and safety nets. It is believed that the project’s intervention will significantly contribute to making the livelihood of beneficiaries economically and socially resilient. In total, approximately 450 households will be our direct and indirect beneficiaries of the project.

Proposed outputs of project:

Output 1: Developing Sustainable Livelihoods through capacity-strengthening interventions on income generation, micro-entrepreneurial skills, and business and financial literacy.

Output 2: Increasing Access to Social Protection Mechanisms and Services through engagement, facilitation, and linkage support.

Output 3: Increasing Access to Finance and Business Development Services by leveraging access to business development services and financial institutions.
