A team of eight, comprised of FWEAN and LWF representatives were on a monitoring visit to Ghuseĺ VDC of Lalitpur district. The team interacted with women farmers supported by the project and visited their vegetable farms. Although these women seemed actively engaged in vegetable production, they had difficulties in reaching the market. They raised concern that the middlemen paid them nominal price, while they sold their produce at a much higher price in the market.
The team recommended them to manage their marketing by establishing a collection centre through their saving and credit cooperative which they have been running so effectively. Hearing from FWEAN member Anand Shova Tamrakar, an expert on vermicomposting about its potentials, they expressed their desire for a training on vermicomposting and integrated pest management so as to practice organic farming all the way. They were glad to learn that such trainings were planned through the project in 2016.
The team also observed beekeeping initiated by some households there. FWEAN board member, Mahalaxmi Shrestha, who is into honey business told them that she could help market their honey.
This was an enlightening trip indeed for FWEAN to learn about the ground realities of women farmers in the project site in Ghusel.
